We could have gone with cheaper, less earth-friendly options. But in keeping with our love for sustainable living and the outdoors, we opted for Repreve® instead.
What is Repreve®?
Repreve® is a brand of fiber that is made from recyclable plastic bottles which are then used to create sustainable products.
You can watch an episode of Discovery Channel's How It's Made to learn more about the entire creation process. Essentially, it's a closed-loop method where used plastic bottles are transformed into high-quality, recycled fibers.
Patagonia use Repreve®. Asics and North Face too. In fact, many of the world's leading outdoor and lifestyle brands are incorporating Repreve® fabric into their products.
Here's a quick breakdown of the production process:
- Post-consumer waste bottles are recycled
- Recycled items are washed and broken into flakes
- Flakes are melted into resin
- Resin is spun into polyester fiber
